Carpe Eternity!

Let’s stop saying ‘Carpe Diem’ and start saying ‘Carpe aeternum (eternity).’ “It is sad how many people constantly live in the schizophrenic craziness of eternity amnesia. We were created to live in a forever relationship with a forever God forever. We were designed to live based on a long view of life. We were made to live with one eye on now and one eye on eternity. You and I simply cannot live as we were put together to live without forever. But so many people try. They put all their hopes and dreams in the right here, right now...

Remembering the Basics

I am TERRIBLE at math! I don't even think my left brain functions most days. Thank God for calculators. I was talking to a friend the other day whose son's math grade was slipping because her son could no longer use a calculator. The teachers realized the students were becoming too reliant on calculators and, as a result, made the kids stop using them. All of a sudden, students who normally got A's, were getting lower grades when the calculators were absent. They had forgotten basic math facts and were floundering. As I was reading my Bible this morning, it...

How do you "fall in love" with God's Word and grow your affections for reading something that, well, doesn't seem that interesting sometimes? I was thinking about this and realized that broccoli and the Bible have something in common! Did you know that when you crave chocolate, it's usually due to a magnesium deficiency...which is found in broccoli or avocados? So you are never REALLY satisfied with the...

Are you a transformer or a sponge?

By Stephanie Parker The other day, my 4 year old son Maverick was playing with a sponge in the sink. He thought it was ‘so cool’ that no matter how much water you fill the sponge with, the sponge stays the same shape. I shared with my little guy how it’s so important that we are NOT like sponges when it comes to our relationship with God. It is easy to get filled up with a bunch of knowledge, stories and verses about God from church, Sunday school and our quiet times, but unless we allow God to actually change...

Small acts of Faith

By Stephanie Parker Sometimes I think God acts a bit like Mr. Miyagi from the movie ‘The Karate Kid.’ In the movie, Daniel wants Miyagi to teach him Karate, but instead, Miyagi gets him to do a list of chores. Miyagi instructs him to “wax on, wax off,” sand the floor and paint the fence. Daniel thinks he is being asked to do these things simply to earn the right to learn from Miyagi. Instead, all the while, Miyagi is teaching him Karate without him even realizing it. God works that way with us sometimes. God gives us little tasks,...
