Remembering the Basics

I am TERRIBLE at math! I don't even think my left brain functions most days. Thank God for calculators. I was talking to a friend the other day whose son's math grade was slipping because her son could no longer use a calculator. The teachers realized the students were becoming too reliant on calculators and, as a result, made the kids stop using them. All of a sudden, students who normally got A's, were getting lower grades when the calculators were absent. They had forgotten basic math facts and were floundering. As I was reading my Bible this morning, it...

The size of our God

2 Kings 6:15 Christian Devotion Faith in God Strength in God Trusting in the Lord walking in faith

The size of our God

By Stephanie Parker My 4 year old son Maverick can easily swim from one end of our pool to the other… but only if I’m standing on the other side waiting for him. If I’m not there, fear grips his little heart, tears begin to well up in his eyes and he loses all confidence in his swimming ability. Are you a transformer or a sponge?

By Stephanie Parker The other day, my 4 year old son Maverick was playing with a sponge in the sink. He thought it was ‘so cool’ that no matter how much water you fill the sponge with, the sponge stays the same shape. I shared with my little guy how it’s so important that we are NOT like sponges when it comes to our relationship with God. It is easy to get filled up with a bunch of knowledge, stories and verses about God from church, Sunday school and our quiet times, but unless we allow God to actually change...

Choosing to Celebrate

Celebrating our victories Christian Devotion

Choosing to Celebrate

Sometimes the only person against us, is ourselves. Sometimes we are so focused on our failures that we forget to celebrate the small victories in our lives. We focus on that extra pound, instead of focusing on the fact that we got back to eating healthy in spite of our discouragement. We focus on the size of our bank account, instead focusing on the great choice we made to say 'no' to that purchase in an effort to pay off debt. We focus on an unkind word from a loved one, instead of focusing on the many ways that person...

Choose peace today....

Christian Devotion Hebrews 12:14 Psalm 34:14 Psalm 37:37 Seek peace

Choose peace today....

By Stephanie Parker I learned something today as I was reading my Bible. Peace is more of an action, a choice, than it is a state of being. Jesus was called the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), BUT the peace Jesus brought came by way of his own death on the cross. So wouldn't it make sense that in order for us to experience peace, we too must choose to endure a sort of death of ourselves to achieve it? When peace is referred to in these verses below, it's clearly a choice, an action. It's something to be pursued...
